Alexandria Day Trip

Extend Your Egyptian Journey with a Day in Coastal Alexandria

Before or after your main tour, enjoy a full-day excursion (including lunch) to the captivating city of Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast. Founded by Alexander the Great, this coastal gem is known for its sandy beaches, seaside cafés, bustling souks, and a unique blend of Greco-Roman and Egyptian heritage.

Begin your adventure with a descent into the Roman Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa—Egypt’s largest Roman burial site. This fascinating underground complex plunges 35 meters below the city and contains three levels of tombs, chambers, and corridors. It was discovered by chance in 1900 when a donkey-drawn cart fell into a hidden shaft.

Next, visit Pompey’s Pillar, an enormous red granite column that is a remnant of Alexandria’s Roman past. Then, stop at the Library of Alexandria, a stunning modern tribute to the ancient world’s greatest repository of knowledge. If open to the public during our visit, you’ll have the option to explore inside.

Take a relaxed walk along the seafront corniche, with its panoramic views of the Mediterranean, leading to the iconic Citadel of Qaitbey. This 14th-century fortress stands on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, destroyed by a powerful earthquake in 1323 AD. Enjoy a guided tour of the citadel, a testament to the city’s enduring strength and beauty.
